In the antecedent era of Coles Crossing, Mr. Cullen, of the esteemed Houston family for whom Cullen Blvd is named, acquired an expansive tract of land. Aerially surveying 1200 acres, he envisioned its potential as a residential haven. Collaborating with Jefferson Development, a prominent entity, Mr. Cullen, a discerning investor, set into motion the development plans.

In the nascent phase, Barker Cypress concluded at 290, commemorated by a grand opening in 1998. Early in 1998, Coles Crossing initiated home sales under the guidance of builders Newmark, Perry, Plantation, and Trendmaker, establishing a flourishing sylvan enclave in three distinctive sections.

An intentional allocation of 175 acres for recreational facilities marked a commitment to preserving wooded landscapes and fostering communal spaces. Orchestrated by the Developer, the Coles Crossing Community thrived, with home sales commencing and the foundation firmly laid. The community ethos manifested in a symbolic logo featuring a tree and trail, accompanied by the tagline "A Classic Way of Life." This phrase, invoking nostalgic ideals, encapsulated the atmosphere of a bygone era—children playing outdoors, individual mailboxes, and deliveries from the traditional milkman. Early advertising campaigns, notably "A Classic Way of Life" and "To the Trees," defined and shaped the community's identity.

On April 24, 1999, Coles Crossing commemorated its first anniversary with the "Swing into Spring" event, featuring Swing music in model homes by Newmark, Perry, Plantation, and Trendmaker Homes. The festivities culminated in a free outdoor concert on April 25, headlined by Mr. Fabulous and the Casino Royale Orchestra. A nostalgic touchstone, the old-fashioned milkman, made a charming appearance. Coles Crossing's General Manager Wayne Meyer and the community’s first resident, Mary Anne Navarro (Heckman), embraced the occasion, participating in Swing dance lessons.

Today, Coles Crossing stands as a vibrant community for thousands of residents, providing a plethora of year-round activities. Its distinctive family spirit and commitment to nurturing a special sense of home render it a cherished haven for all who reside within its bounds.
